INTRODUCTION
Downer were contracted to build an underground railway station in the Britomart precinct. We prepared, monitored and reported on the construction programme to Downer.
The project entailed retaining and excavating a 12m deep trench in which the new rail station was built.
Construction extended westwards under the central Post Office building for pedestrian links and eastwards to the Parnell marshalling rail yards adjacent to the old rail.
Included 200,000 cubic metres earth excavated for station.
Site area 5.2ha, 40,000 cubic metres concrete poured.
